Combinations of Color
When it comes to spring bulb displays, you can coordinate and mix them really as much as you want, but try not to include too many colors or varieties. Two to three colors will keep the look interesting and tasteful without causing an overwhelming mix of color.
If you don’t have a lot of space, group one or two varieties together to create a strong impact. Grouping colors in condensed spaces delivers the most bang for your buck and creates a good esthetic flow. Think bright, contrasting color if you’re the bold and adventurous type. Muted pastels offer something a little more light and elegant.
Plan for Different Bloom Times
Remember, different bulbs bloom at different times and last longer than others. Select a few varieties with different bloom times. Intermingling early-, mid- and late-season bloomers to set the stage for an entire season of show stopping color.
Keep Flower Height in Mind
Having a height contrast is also a great solution to adding contrast and beauty to any garden. Plant smaller, earlier flowering bulbs such as crocus on top of larger blooming bulbs like tulips and alliums.
